Killer trailer driver arrested from Antop Hill

navi-mumbai-newsNAVI MUMBAI: After mowing down traffic constable Vijay Patil at a Taloja T-junction in Navi Mumbai on Saturday afternoon, the trailer driver,Sajjad Ali Mohammed Ansari (34), fled the scene. He was arrested on Sunday from Antop Hill by a Taloja police team led by PI (crime) Avinash Patil.

Assistant commissioner of police (traffic) S Y Dhivare told TOI on Sunday, “It is a very unfortunate accident. Constable Vijay Patil was a very honest and hardworking cop. He leaves behind two sons, aged 16 and 18 years.”

ACP Dhivare added that in the past, the Navi Mumbai traffic police had requested for a proper traffic signal at the T-junction where Patil was crushed by the rear wheels of the trailer that was taking a right turn. However, the signal post at Navada Phata, Taloja, has still not been installed for various administrative delays.
