Dy. Chief Minister Chagan Bhujbal mocked at his own government by making fun of the fact that the state was running into one trouble after the other for getting the clearance for the Navi Mumbai Intl. Airport. He said that give to the Ambanis and the project will be through. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan however refrained from taking his deputy’s comments seriously.

Sarcasm and mockery marked the speech delivered by Dy. Chief Minister Chagan Bhujbal during his visit to Navi Mumbai. Addressing the audience after inauguration of the PAP Training Cneter at Dronagiri, Dy. Chief Minister Chagan Bhujbal hit at his own government’s failure to get clearance for the Navi Mumbai Intl. Airport by stating that often more importance is given to mangroves than PAPs. He said, that environment clearance to the Navi Mumbai Intl. Airport was pending for years and the problem persists because the state government is doing it. He said, hand over the project to the Ambanis and there will be no obstacles in getting the clearance for the international airport.

The Dy. Chief Minister went on to further make a mockery of sorts as he said that he is not expected to make fun of government functioning like this because he is the Dy. Chief Minister of the state. To cover up the sarcastic taunts he made, Chagan Bhujbal said that he was just speaking the public hearts. The Navi Mumbai International Airport has failed to take off since decades, something that even Chagan Bhujbal reiterated.
And the Dy. Chief Minister did not stop making fun of government functioning in Maharashtra just on the issue of airport. He recalled how the Metro was first planned in Mumbai city in 1982 but Calcutta got, Delhi got and now Mumbai was getting it. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan however brushed aside the embarrassing comments of his deputy by stating that most of Chagan Bhujbal’s remarks were said in light spirit.

What Dy. Chief Minister Chagan Bhujbal missed perhaps was that the Union Aviation Minister is a senior leader of his own party and even the state is run by the NCP-Congress combine. The failure of the state thus in getting the clearance for airport is completely a failure of the democratic front government.
